‘There’s Other Language I’d Like to Use, but We Are on Television’ Lemon Added
CNN’s Don Lemon wasted no time Thursday night, opening his show by stating, “The president of the United States is racist.”Â
“A lot of us already knew that,” Lemon continued, after a slight pause.

The CNN host was referring to news first reported by The Washington Post just a few hours earlier, that President Donald Trump, in the Oval Office, blasted a small group of lawmakers from Capitol Hill about immigrants from “shithole countries,” specifically African countries and Haiti, being allowed into the United States.Â
Trump, as Lemon noted, said he wanted more immigrants from countries like Norway.
“And CNN is told that he went on to say, ‘Why do we need more Haitians? Take them out,'” Lemon reported.
He called Trump’s comments “disgusting.”
“There’s other language I’d like to use, but we are on television,” Lemon continued. “But you know what? They’re not shocking. They’re not even really surprising. Because this is who Donald Trump is.”
Lemon went on to note Trump’s supporters have consistently made excuses for him:
Don Lemon calls Trump racist here & then amazingly through silence, tells people who still support him to go f*ck themselves. This is an inspiring watch. Kudos to Don for stepping up.#RacistTrump @donlemon https://t.co/OVAV8v449F

“How many examples do you need of this?” Lemon posited, referring to Trump apologists who insist Trump isn’t racist, or will claim his remarks were “taken out of context” to defend what is un-defendable.
“But he is a racist,” Lemon repeated.
“For all of you who over the last few years uttered that tired, lazy, uninformed, uneducated, ignorant response of calling me and others who point out racist behavior ‘racists,’ you know what you can go do?” Lemon asked rhetortically. “I can’t say that, but you can go read a book. A history book.”
“What does it say about you that no matter what, you continue to make excuses for this man, for his vile behavior?”
Even past midnight, “Don Lemon” was the number one trending topic on Twitter.
