Breaking: NFL Reinstates Ray Rice After His ‘Indefinite’ Suspension For Domestic Violence
Ray Rice has just won his appeal, and the NFL has reinstated the running back after suspending him indefinitely for domestic violence.
27-year old former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice, whose name has almost become synonymous with a horrific Atlantic City attack on his then-fiancée (and now wife), has won his appeal and has been re-instated by the NFL.Â
In February, Rice assaulted Janay Palmer in an elevator, punching her in the face and knocking her unconscious. In March, he was arrested for the attack, and indicted, for third-degree aggravated assault. In July, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell suspended Rice for just two games, leading to an international outcry that the 94-year old major league sports organization was supporting or ignoring a pandemic of domestic violence in its ranks.

Later, Goodell admitted he “didn’t get it right,” and suspended Rice “indefinitely.” The Ravens terminated Rice’s contract after TMZ published stunning video from inside the elevator of Rice attacking Janay Palmer, his fiancée who he married one day after a grand jury indicted him for third-degree aggravated assault. The charges were later dropped, despite video evidence.
USA Today reports this afternoon that “Barbara S. Jones, a former federal judge and the independent arbitrator in the case, concluded Rice did not mislead Goodell and that no news [sic] facts could provide a basis for the Commissioner to increase the initial suspension” he had applied in July. Today’s ruling vacates Goodell’s extended suspension of Rice, and he is now eligible to play, if any team decides signing him is worth the public outrage that would likely ensue.
