‘Bitch Just Make The Cake’: Bill Maher Takes On Anti-Gay Religious Fundamentalists

Published

on

Watch as Bill Maher takes on Christian and Islamic fundamentalists over their anti-gay positions, reminding Americans that both religions’ holy books call for the execution of gay people.

Bill Maher jumped into the nation’s recent debate over so-called “religious freedom” Friday night, reminding Americans that religious fundamentalists aren’t out of the mainstream, they are the mainstream.

First, the 59-year old atheist opened his “New Rules” segment by telling the religious right that they’ve already lost.

“Conservatives have to admit they’ve lost the culture wars when they’re reduced to demanding the right to not serve wedding cake to gay people,” Maher preached. “That’s the biggest problem facing America, not climate change, or terrorism, or the wealth gap, but gay cake? It’s not like gays are asking bakeries to make a giant penis cake that goes from soft to hard and squirts out butter cream,” he mocked.

And then Maher told some big truths that most Americans have chosen to ignore recently.

“Ever since Indiana Governor Mike Pence signed his Religious Freedom Restoration Act he and like-minded conservatives have been trying to have it both ways. They hate discrimination, but they love the Bible, a book that commands you to discriminate. That’s what it says. Gay is an abomination and we must destroy it by denying it pastry. Of course the root of this problem is that more than half of all Americans believe that the Bible is the actual or inspired word of God. But, now 55 percent also support gay marriage – which must be very confusing. On the one hand, clearly, God has spelled it out. He hates fags. But, you like your gay neighbors Rob and Larry. But, the Bible tells you to kill them. Yes, it literally says kill them. What to do?”

Maher used the example California’s Christian attorney Matt McLaughlin, who recently made headlines by paying $200 to file a ballot initiative that, should the voters of California pass it, would mandate the execution of every gay person in the state, or, “any person who willingly touches another person of the same gender for purposes of sexual gratification.” McLaughlin’s Sodomite Suppression Act calls for gays to “be put to death by bullets to the head or by any other convenient method.”

McLaughlin, Maher notes, says that it’s “better” that non-gay Californians kill the gays rather than have to suffer “God’s just wrath.”

And more truth-telling.

“Now I know you’re saying, ‘this guy is so far out on the fringe,’ but that’s the scary thing: he’s not. And this is what never gets discussed in these ‘religious freedom’ issues. The reason fundamentalists are so stubbornly anti-gay is they truly believe that condoning homosexuality will bring on God’ wrath.”

Maher went through a list of professional anti-gay haters, including Rev. Jerry Falwell, whose Liberty University is were Ted Cruz chose to announce his candidacy for president. Also on Maher’s list were Pastor John Hagee, televangelist Pat Robertson, who is the head of Regent University, and Bob Jones University founder Bob Jones III.

“Take fundamentalists at their word. They literally believe this stuff,” Maher observed. “If you believe that God wiped out Sodom and Gomorrah for being too gay, then, yeah, he must be itching to hit West Hollywood,” Maher quipped.

Maher then turned his focus, as he recently has tended to do, on countries that have a majority of citizens who are Muslim, like Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Pakistan.

“Suffice it to say, in many Muslim countries, you wouldn’t have to work hard at all to get signatures on your ‘kill all the gays’ ballot initiative. In ten such countries, it’s already the law.”

And he reminded that Mohammad calls for the killing of anyone who engages in sodomy.

Maher then called for moderates to “hijack” Islam, as, he observes, happened with Christianity.

“People say ISIS hijacked Islam. No actually, the opposite is true. Religions do have hijackers, but the hijackers are the moderates, and I thank atheist God for them. They’re the ones who took a Sharpie to the Bible and redacted all the crazy parts until there was almost nothing left to read – like an email from Hillary Clinton. And now someone in Islam needs to do that with the Koran.”

“There’s so much wrong with America these days, take pride in the one thing that is legitimately better. We don’t let fundamentalists rule our shit. What’s the proof? Our gay battles are over cake. And even then, not once has one of these religious freedom laws been used to deny a gay person his wedding cake. It doesn’t happen. What happens is, there’s a lawsuit, it goes to court, and the judge says, ‘bitch just make the cake!'”

In the end, isn’t it time to put hate in the name of “religious liberty” back on the shelf, where old books, and not people, live?

‘Shaky’ House GOP Leadership ‘Losing Control’: Report

Published

on

Speaker Mike Johnson and his leadership team reportedly are “losing control” of the House floor.

That’s according to Punchbowl News and its cofounder, Jake Sherman, who report that what was once a rare occurrence, forcing votes via discharge petitions as a way to circumvent the Speaker — which was done to release the Epstein files — is becoming more commonplace.

“The sheer number of successful discharge petitions is stunning and shows just how poor the outlook is for Johnson and his top lieutenants,” Punchbowl reported.

U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), who has openly feuded with Speaker Johnson, and is resigning next month, blasted the Speaker Wednesday evening.

“At this time, I am considering signing every discharge petition – whether I support the bill or not,” she wrote. “As a duly elected Member of Congress, I believe my colleagues should have the ability to bring legislation to the floor for a vote. Every Member deserves the right to represent their district and receive a recorded vote on their bills. This is a result of House leadership blocking Members from governing.”

It’s not just the discharge petitions, however.

“Being forced to bargain for GOP support during simple procedural votes. Calls to Cabinet secretaries from the House floor to help win over members. A prolonged debate on health care with a disengaged president. Potential retirements on the horizon,” Punchbowl reported. “This is the House Republican majority with less than 11 months until the midterm elections.”

Separately, some reports say up to 39 House Republicans could be out after this Congress by retiring or seeking other offices. Reporting on “Johnson’s Career Crisis,” Puck revealed that “one estimate puts the number as high as 20 new announcements” of Republicans exiting “in the coming weeks.”

Meanwhile, Punchbowl conceded, “we won’t say that the House is in total chaos. Total chaos is when members unleash censure resolutions against each other or a trio of House Republicans publicly claim Speaker Mike Johnson has no business running the chamber. That was last week.”

But it points to the “very tenuous reality” for Johnson and his leadership team, “as they navigate the post-shutdown climate with a soon-to-be-even-thinner three vote margin.”

What’s changed?

House Republicans used to be soldiers kept in line by “fear” of President Donald Trump. But that seems to have diminished along with his approval ratings. And, GOP lawmakers “took a beating” during last month’s elections. In short, many House Republicans may be starting to put their own careers over loyalty to the party.

Punchbowl detailed “a pair of episodes this week” that “demonstrate just how shaky the House GOP leadership’s control is.”

On the must-pass National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), a historically bipartisan exercise, “House Republicans struggled for more than an hour” just to “pass a rule to begin debate.”

Just to flip several conservatives, the Speaker of the House “had to call Secretary of State Marco Rubio from a room off the House floor” to obtain promises.

And in another instance, some moderate House Republicans wanting to get a bill on the floor to extend the Obamacare subsidies, “dropped a discharge petition to go over Johnson’s head” after being dissatisfied with the Speaker’s answer.

‘You’re a Loser Dude’: Carville Scorches Trump as ‘Done’

Published

on

James Carville, the veteran political consultant, blasted President Donald Trump after Democrats had another strong showing in Tuesday night’s elections.

In several contests — including Miami’s mayoral race, where the Democrat won by a wide margin — Democrats overperformed, continuing the streak they’ve had for much of the entire year. According to elections news site Bolts, Democrats “flipped 21 percent of all the GOP-held seats that were on the ballot throughout 2025.”

“He’s done,” Carville said of Trump on Wednesday’s Politics War Room podcast. “We just got to butter this toast and slice it and eat it. He’s done.”

“He’s done in Florida,” Carville continued. “He’s done in Pennsylvania. He’s done in New Jersey. He’s done in Virginia. He’s done in Mississippi. He was done in Georgia. He’s done.”

“It’s over. You’re a loser, dude,” Carville declared. “You’re losing everywhere. And you’re gonna lose more, because you, my friend, are a loser.”

The Democratic pundit began the segment by saying that Trump is “trying to argue that you’re not feeling what you’re feeling.”

“But understand this. People are seeing this and people are voting on this. Understand that. He’s not getting away with it. He’s caught onto. He’s not getting away with it. He’s paying for it. And he’s gonna continue to pay for it.”

“And we got to stop looking at him as some kind of political Svengali, a political Houdini, or anything like that.”

‘Special Kind of Delusion’: Top Democrat Mocks Trump ‘Train Wreck’

Published

on

Tuesday night was the first stop on President Donald Trump’s new affordability messaging tour, but it was a “train wreck,” U.S. Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer said.

Trump may have read all his lines at his Pennsylvania rally, but he also ad-libbed a lot, mocking the affordability crisis in America as a “hoax.”

Leader Schumer on Wednesday told his Senate colleagues that Trump “simply doesn’t get what people are struggling through,” because he’s “trapped in his billionaire bubble.”

“It takes a special kind of delusion to tell parents to buy their kids fewer toys and pencils while bragging about new ballrooms and gold in the Oval Office,” the New York Democratic lawmaker explained.

“In his speech, that was supposed to be about affordability, Donald Trump kept making fun of the word ‘affordability,'” Schumer noted. “Does he have to go shop for groceries and not be able to buy the things his family needs?”

The Democratic Leader explained that the president doesn’t understand what it’s like when your car gets damaged in an accident, “and you don’t have money for the deductible, and you don’t have a car.”

“People are struggling,” Schumer said. “They can’t afford basic needs, and Donald Trump keeps making fun of it by calling it all a giant hoax. But Americans know affordability is not a hoax. They see it as very real every time they go to the grocery store, pay their bills, pay the rent.”

A recent poll found that 77% of Americans concerned about the economy and inflation believe the president is not spending enough time managing those problems.

“What was Donald Trump’s solution to affordability?” Senator Schumer asked. “Well, last night, Trump said parents should buy their kids fewer dolls for Christmas. We’re not talking about fewer dolls for Christmas. We’re talking about necessities like food. Like medicine. Like fixing your car when it gets damaged.”

A just released Politico poll found that “Half of those surveyed said they find it difficult to pay for food. And a majority, 55 percent, blame the Trump administration for the high prices.”

Schumer continued to blast Trump, noting that he “said kids at school should have fewer pencils. And then he repeated his favorite, that his favorite word was tariffs. What kind of world does he live in? Does he understand that these tariffs are raising prices? Through the roof?”

Schumer also pointed to Trump’s Politico interview this week — where the president gave himself an “A+++++” on the economy — and warned that “the American people are giving him an F.”

“Over the last year, the price of beef has gone up at the grocery store by 20%,” Schumer noted. “That’s an F. Today, Americans pay 40% more for a single cup of coffee on their way to work than they did last year. That’s an F. People are paying more on electricity bills while Donald Trump has cut domestic energy jobs. That’s a massive F.”

“The final grade, big fat F. In no universe does Donald Trump deserve anywhere close to an A, or a B, or even a C, for his job on the economy.”
