Fashion duo Dolce & Gabbana try to stop the hemorrhaging of their reputation by talking with CNN. It doesn’t go well.Â
Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana are finishing off a week of worldwide criticism after the fashion icons made ugly remarks about children born via in vitro fertilization, same-sex marriage, and their detractors. The former couple who remain at the helm of billion dollar empire Dolce & Gabbana, called same-sex families unnatural, and IVF children “synthetic,” born from a rented womb, with catalogue semen.Â
When Elton John, the parent of two IVF children, chastised them, Stefano Gabbana labeled him a “fascist,” and other detractors “racist dictators.”
But now, the 50-something year old Italian Catholics are trying to mend fences. They took to CNN’s cameras to try to whitewash their recent comments, but how successful it was remains to be seen.

They have never apologized for any of their remarks, nor did they with CNN.
“I respect all the world, all the culture,” Domenico Dolce says, but adds, “I believe in the traditional family. It is impossible to change my culture for something different.”Â
Stefano, who for the past few days has been using Instagram to attack and highlight his critics, called for “tolerance.”
He himself says he believes in in vitro, whereas Domenico does not.Â
“You think what you think,” Dolce responded, insisting there is a difference between personal beliefs and support.
As for Elton John, Dolce says he “loves” him and does not want a boycott of his work. “I sing [his music] every day.”
Gabbana tried to smooth things over.
“We love gay couple. We are gay. We love gay couple. We love gay adoption. We love everything. It’s just an express of my private point of view,” he says.
“I believe in the tradition of family,” Dolce adds.
