A gay man in Scotland, having been burned and beaten to death, and, some reports state, found tied to a lamppost, early Saturday morning in Cumnock, Ayrshire, Scotland. Police are investigating to determine if the victim, Stuart Walker, 28, who suffered “horrific injuries,” was killed as part of a hate crime murder. Walker was on his way to his grandmother’s 80th birthday party but never arrived.

“We knew something was wrong because he was really close to his gran and wouldn’t have missed her party for anything,” the Daily Record reports Walker’s cousin, John Mullen, saying.

“He was close to everyone who knew him. He was everyone’s best pal.

“Stuart was the best guy ever. Everyone knew Stuart – he was one of the best known boys in Cumnock and the surrounding area.

“If you were to walk down the street, no one would have a bad word to say about him.”

Stuart’s friends last saw him alive near the fire station in Glaisnock Street at about 2.30am. His scorched and beaten body was found tied to a lamppost just before 5am on the Caponacre industrial estate on the outskirts of town.

Detective Inspector John Hogg, of Ayr CID, said yesterday: “It is imperative that we find out where he was between 2.30am and 4.50am, who he was with and why this happened to him.

“We understand that there may have been a number of house parties in the nearby Netherthird housing estate in the early hours of the morning – between 2am and 3am.

“At this time we do not know if these parties are linked to our investigation or not, so again, any information on that is important. Officers are checking CCTV and carrying out door-todoor inquiries in the area and we would encourage anyone with information to approach them or to call.”

Yesterday, flowers were laid near the murder scene. One left by his gran read: “Miss + Love you always our dear grandson. Sleep tight, Gran and Papa.”

Although all reports agree that Walker was viscously murdered and was found by the side of a road, and was burned and was beaten and his injuries were “horrific,” reports vary as to whether or not burning was the cause of Stuart Walker’s death and whether or not he was found tied to a lamppost. We will continue to report on this story as it develops.

We should show this to the right wing when they say "gays have achieved equality.' It's their hate speech that promotes this kind of action against LGBT people.

For half a decade we (the Council on Homosexuality and Religion) studied homophobic assault, and published Canada's first major report on it. We discovered in our own research, and in the literature survey, than gay-bashers (and those who assault other unpopular minorities) almost always have authoritarian personalities. That is, they think they are doing the right thing, what someone in authority wants them to do. For three months, the Scottish press has been reporting attacks by the Roman Catholic church on the SNP government for planning to consult on same-sex marriage. So, for this and its like, you have the Roman Catholic and other religious conservatives to thank. Historically, this is not much different from their traditional responses to difference.

Wow,, I have to say this has sickened me to my stomach. So much hate from people who are so poorly educated and or have some thing to hide themselves. There is no such thing as a person with equality until we all have equality. What a way to leave this earth, my thoughts are with his family, friends and especially his nan.

I hope that investigations will clarify two statements in this article: 1) Stuart Walker was on his way to his grandmother's 80th birthday and 2) Mr. Walker was last seen alive around 2:30 a.m. When was his grandmother's party? Here in the U. S., the right wing homophobes say that Gay Americans seek "special rights" and not equal rights. I want American homophobes to take a look at what happened to Mr. Walker and then say that we want "special rights." If to not be brutally murdered is "special rights," then "special rights" are what we want. Pitiful. . . .
