Anti-Gay Catholic League Demands To March In NYC Pride Parade — NYC Pride Responds

Bill Donohue is fuming mad. The head of the tiny yet boisterous and well-funded Catholic League is demanding to be allowed to march in this year’s New York City Pride parade under the banner “Straight is Great.”

Heritage of Pride, the official organizers of NYC Pride issued a brilliant statement (PDF) overnight responding to Donohue’s demands.

“Mr. Donohue and his group are free to participate in the 2014 March. His group’s presence affirms the need for this year’s Pride theme, ‘We Have Won When We’re One.’ Straight is great – as long as there’s no hate,” said David Studinski, March Director of NYC Pride.

Chris Frederick, Managing Director of NYC Pride, added, “Straight allies are great. We have thousands of straight people participating in the Pride March, including Catholic groups, who support LGBT youth, families and married couples.”

But Heritage of Pride also took the opportunity to inform the public of just exactly who Bill Donohue is, and the filth he spews on a regular basis.

GLAAD’s Commentator Accountability Project provided background information on Bill Donohue’s recent statements on LGBT people. On February 27, 2014, Donohue gave a video interview with World Over with Raymond Arroyo in which he stated, “If I wanted to get into their gay pride parade with my own float with big banners saying ‘straight is great,’ they would have a right to feel put-upon and I wouldn’t do that to them.” Video footage is at 12 minutes and 30 seconds: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JoATmGJG3DA

Mr. Donohue has been an outspoken opponent of legal recognition of LGBT people, loving LGBT families, the science of sexual orientation and HIV/AIDS education. He continually refers to marriage equality as “crazy” and “one of the most bizarre ideas in human history,” and he has equated the marriage equality movement with the “minority of people in South Africa who took away the rights of Black people;” insists “we’re not going to allow gay people to adopt children, that’s against nature, it’s against nature’s God;” champions a program called Courage, which tells LGBT people that a chaste, celibate life is the only acceptable option; and on multiple occasions, Mr. Donohue has referred to AIDS as “self-inflicted” and due to going against “natural order.”

Donohue has been on a rampage ever since the makers of Guinness beer announced they were dropping support of New York City’s St. Patrick’s Day parade.

Seriously? It's okay if they discriminate us, but if we say no, we're the bullies and hypocrites?

NO, the Pride parade is for people who support LGBT rights. Not people who want gay people dead. Bill Pedophile Protector Donohue does not support LGBT rights and he has expressed support for forcing gay people into re-education camps. The St Patrick's Day parade is for Irish people, not catholics only, and they banned gay Irish people from marching in the parade simply because they wanted to wave a rainbow flag or wear a t-shirt that says "Irish and Gay" which still celebrates being Irish and has NO negative connotations or attacks against Irish. So no, no anti-gay at a celebration for being gay. If he stops the anti-gay statements and shows support for LGBT rights then fine but if he is going to be pushing anti-gay trash, NO.

If he wants to march in the LGBT Pride parade then he can march with "Catholics for Equality", PFLAG, or any of the PRO-gay Christian churches but since he is very publicly anti-gay and has spouted our extremely disgusting anti-gay hate speech marching with those groups is a contradiction just as marching in the Pride parade is a contradiction.

St. Patrick's Day parades are about celebrating being Irish and that is what LGBT Irish NYers wanted to do. LGBT Pride is about celebrating being gay and supporting gay people and that is NOT what Bill Pedophile Protector Donohue intends to do. He intends to harass and bully LGBT people at their own event. More evidence that he is a bully that demands LGBT people allow him to bully and demean us right to our faces. ABSOLUTELY NOT!

Go protect child molesters from prosecution, incarceration, and registration putting the lives of American children in danger, Bill, that is what you do best pedophile lover.

Bravo! Great letter!
We can't be bullies and say no. Nothing says we can't inform the public or at least the other folks in the parade what kind of person Bill Blowhard is.
Just brilliant.

Let them march with the parade. That is what equality means.

you know, let them march this year and then next time they ban us from a parade we can throw it back in their face that we let you, yet you are being bullies by not letting us. then they will show their true colors and cannot hide from the fact that they are the ones who are bullies.
