LOOK: NY Daily News Goes After Trump In Amazing Page One Cartoon And Nazi-Era Poem
The New York Daily News has moved on from its gun control focus to calling out GOP frontrunner Donald Trump.
You may remember some of the New York Daily News covers last week, denouncing GOP politicians who tweeted “thoughts and prayers” for the San Bernardino victims but refusing to vote for gun control. The NY tabloid also denounced as a “terrorist” the head of the NRA, in the wake of the terror attack that took 14 lives.
Tuesday night the paper unveiled its page one cover for Wednesday, and it’s equally daring and amazing.
The News borrows from “First They Came,” a popular poem penned by Pastor Martin Niemöller, which targets the Germans who turned a blind eye to the tactics used during the rise of Hitler as he took over as the leader of Nazi Germany:
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
Here’s the NY Daily News’ page one for Wednesday:
