Watch: Bernie Sanders Says Democratic Convention in Philadelphia Could Get ‘Messy’
Vermont Senator Says Campaign Is Bringing in New Voters
Bernie Sanders says the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia could get “messy.” The Senator from Vermont, in an exclusive, just-published interview with the Associated Press also said “he will ‘condemn any and all forms of violence’ but his presidential campaign is bringing new people into the process who have never gone to a political convention before. He said he hopes ‘their voices will be heard.'”
Telling the AP that “democracy is not always nice and quiet and gentle,” Sanders was asked “if the convention could be messy.” He told the AP, “So what. Democracy is messy.”
Senator Sanders came under fire a week ago after the Nevada Democratic Party Convention. There were reports of name-calling, personal attacks, and inappropriate behavior. There were also reports of violence – which are disputed. Not disputed were the huge number of of harassing texts, voicemails, and emails sent to Nevada state Party Chairwoman Roberta Lange, including death threats. Some Sanders supporters saw her as being unfair the the Sanders campaign. Sanders, some feel, did not sufficiently denounce the threats and harassment.
The Nevada Democratic Party filed an official complaint with the DNC as a result of the attacks.
