‘Many Wonderful Candidates!’: Trump Announces Departure of Yet Another Homeland Security Secretary
President Donald Trump spoke with reporters on the White House lawn just three hours ago, but he waited until Friday night to announce the departure of his Acting Secretary of Homeland Security – his fourth official in charge of DHS.
“Kevin McAleenan has done an outstanding job as Acting Secretary of Homeland Security. We have worked well together with Border Crossings being way down. Kevin now, after many years in Government, wants to spend more time with his family and go to the private sector,” Trump tweeted. “Congratulations Kevin, on a job well done! I will be announcing the new Acting Secretary next week. Many wonderful candidates!” he insisted.
The Dept.of Homeland Security has a $47 billion budget, 240,000 employees, and is responsible for ensuring the security of the United States across many areas, including border security, cyber security, and disaster management.
McAleenan is the man who was forced to appear with Trump and his infamous doctored Sharpie map (photo above). McAleenan was officially made Acting Secretary on April 11, 2019, six months ago to the day.
There have been 10 Homeland Security Secretaries since the Department was formed in 2003. The last four have been across a period of less than three years.
