A just-released Gallup poll reveals support from Republican voters for impeaching President Donald Trump – which was astonishingly low already, has actually dropped, while support for impeachment among Democrats and independents has strongly increased.
89% of Democrats support impeaching President Trump, up eight points since June. The majority of independents (55%) now support impeachment, up nine points over that 4-month period.
Just 6% of Republicans support impeaching the president, down one point from June.
Overall, 52% of Americans support impeaching President Trump, up seven points in four months.
President Trump has admitted to committing a crime – on national television – and said he would do it again. He engaged in an extortion scheme by withholding congressionally-approved military aid to Ukraine in exchange for political dirt on his top Democratic opponent, Joe Biden. His personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, is under criminal investigation after off-the-books freelance secret shadow government globetrotting diplomacy to further his and the president’s personal agendas, and Trump has obstructed justice and interfered in congressional investigations, all of which are impeachable offenses sufficient for removal from office.
And yet more than 9 out of 10 Republicans want to see him stay in office.
