Democrats Expand Scope of Impeachment Inquiry to Include Role Mike Pence ‘May Have Played’ in Ukraine Extortion

House Democrats have expanded the scope of their impeachment investigation to include Vice President Mike Pence’s role in the Ukraine extortion scandal. Friday afternoon the chairmen of three committees sent the vice president a letter requesting certain Ukraine documents be delivered by October 15.

“Recently, public reports have raised questions about any role you may have played in conveying or reinforcing the President’s stark message to the Ukrainian President,” the Chairmen write. “The reports include specific references to a member of your staff who may have participated directly in the July 25, 2019, call, documents you may have obtained or reviewed, including the record of the call, and your September 1, 2019, meeting with the Ukrainian President in Warsaw, during which you reportedly discussed the Administration’s hold on U.S. security assistance to Ukraine.”

“The requested documents shall be collected as part of the House’s impeachment inquiry” of President Donald Trump, the letter states.

The chairmen are: Rep. Adam Schiff, the Chairman of the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, Rep. Eliot L. Engel, the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, and Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, the Chairman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform.

President Donald Trump has engaged in an extortion plot involving $400 million of congressionally-approved U.S. military aid in exchange for the President of Ukraine promising to dig up dirt on Trump’s top Democratic political opponent, Joe Biden, and Biden’s son Hunter. There is no evidence of any illegal activity or wrongdoing by either of the Bidens.
