GOP Mass Exodus Continues: Powerful 13-Term Republican US Congressman Calling It Quits
The GOP mass exodus is expanding. A powerful 13-term Republican U.S. Congressman from Texas has just announced he too is retiring. Rep. Mac Thornberry becomes the 19th Republican to announce they are leaving the House this session, and the sixth House Republican from Texas to throw in the towel.
Rep. Thornberry, who serves as the Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee, has been in Congress since 1995. He is just 62 years old, and has no re-election worries: Thornberry’s district is the most Republican in the country. He will leave the House at the end of his term.
Thornberry has a soldly anti-LGBTQ voting record. He has earned 100% ratings from anti-gay hate groups, including the American Family Association and Family Research Council.
