GOP Mass Exodus Continues as Second Most-Senior Congressman Retires

A 21-term U.S. Congressman, the second-longest serving in the House of Representatives, has just announced he will retire at the end of his term. Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner, Republican of Wisconsin, is one of the architects of the PATRIOT Act. He’s also one of a few members of Congress to vote against making Martin Luther King, Jr. a national holiday.

Sensenbrenner is ranked as a hard core conservative. He voted multiple times against same-sex marriage and voted against re-authorizing the Violence Against Women Act.

He is the 16th Republican to announce he is leaving Congress this session. Only three Democrats have announced they are leaving.
