The Dept. of Justice Inspector General has just released a report declining to prosecute Jim Comey, but delivering a sharp rebuke to actions the former FBI Director took by releasing to a friend memos he wrote, and by housing them in his home without notifying the Bureau.
The New York Times characterizes the report as “highly critical” of Comey’s actions regarding the contemporaneous memos he wrote immediately after several interactions with President Donald Trump. It also accuses him of setting “a dangerous example” to other government officials who deal with confidential information.
“Comey violated F.B.I. policy and the requirements of his F.B.I. employment agreement when he chose this path,” the I.G. says in its report.
MSNBC Justice Analyst Matt Miller blasted the I.G. report as missing the “context” of the time in which Comey was operating, and says it misses the mark “of what was happening in the real world.”
