‘I’d Take It’: Trump Admits He Would Absolutely Take Illegal Information From Foreign Power to Win Campaign
Trump Says FBI Director ‘Is Wrong’
President Donald Trump has just admitted he would absolutely take illegal information on a political opponent from a foreign power. It is illegal for foreign powers to interfere in a U.S. election.
“If somebody called from a country, Norway,” Trump told ABC News Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos while in the Oval Office Wednesday, “[and said] ‘we have information on your opponent’ — oh, I think I’d want to hear it.”
“I think you might want to listen, there isn’t anything wrong with listening,” Trump said, which is legally false. “You don’t call the FBI.”
Asked if he would accept opposition research or other information about his opponent, from China or Russia, Trump said, “I think maybe you do both” – accept the information and call the FBI.
When Stephanopoulos tells the president FBI Director Chris Wray said the right thing for any campaign official to do in that situation is call the FBI, Trump blasted, “The FBI Director is wrong.”
The FBI Director in point of fact is correct.
