House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler has just announced a series of hearings will begin next week on “Lessons from the Mueller Report: Presidential Obstruction and Other Crimes.” The first witness will be John Dean, President Richard Nixon’s former White House Counsel, who in the 1970’s became a key witness against the now-late president.
Dean has become a strong opponent of President Trump and said last year Congress has “little choice” but to begin impeachment hearings.
“No one is above the law,” Chairman Nadler said in a statement, as Axios reports. “While the White House continues to cover up and stonewall, and to prevent the American people from knowing the truth, we will continue to move forward with our investigation. These hearings will allow us to examine the findings laid out in Mueller’s report so that we can work to protect the rule of law and protect future elections through consideration of legislative and other remedies.”
The hearing comes as Democratic voters and about 60 Democratic House members are calling for impeachment or an impeachment inquiry.
Democratic leaders seem to believe they need greater support among voters and in the Senate before officially starting any impeachment effort.
