John Kelly Will Now Directly Profit From the Horrific Policy He Initiated
The former Trump administration official who first proposed separating migrant children from their parents with the specific intent to deter others from trying to come to the U.S. has a new job.
Former Trump chief of staff John Kelly, who started with the administration as the President’s Secretary of Homeland Security, has just joined the board of directors of the company operating the largest shelter for unaccompanied migrant children, CBS News reports.
In early Marco of 2017, less than two months into the Trump administration’s tenure, Kelly proposed the idea of separating migrant children from their parents.
Weeks later he publicly claimed the administration would not pursue the idea, after tremendous public outrage.
Later, the program would be initiated under his protégé and successor, then-Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen. But as investigations into child separation grew, as did the numbers of children (likely in the thousands) who will never be reunited with their parents, it became apparent the administration had been “testing” child separation long before it admitted to it.
“Caliburn International confirmed to CBS News that Kelly had joined its board of directors,” CBS reported Friday. “Caliburn is the parent company of Comprehensive Health Services, which operates Homestead and three other shelters for unaccompanied migrant children in Texas.”
