SCOTUS Upholds Mike Pence Abortion Law

The U.S. Supreme Court has just handed down a ruling that effectively sides with anti-abortion activists working to restrict access to abortion.

Without hearing oral arguments the Court Tuesday morning upheld a portion of an Indiana law that was signed by then-Governor Mike Pence. That portion of the law requires post-abortive fetal remains to be treated as a human being, and be cremated or buried. The law applies to abortions and miscarriages.

The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals had ruled against Indiana. Today’s SCOTUS opinion reverses that ruling.

The court did not address the challenge to the other part of the law that banned abortions if they were because of the fetus’ race or sex, or if the fetus were disabled.
