With the entrance Tuesday of Montana Democratic Governor Steve Bullock in the 2020 presidential race, Democratic voters are urging the nearly two dozen White House hopefuls to reconsider their campaigns and set their sights on a Senate seat instead of the Oval Office.
Former Vice President Joe Biden admitted his strategy was to wait for all the other Democrats to enter the race before declaring his candidacy. That was nearly three weeks ago, and two more candidates have since announced their candidacy.
Some Americans, presumably Democrats, are taking to Twitter to urge some of the 23-candidate strong field to reconsider, and run for the Senate instead. Others are made a plea asking party favorites, like Stacey Abrams, to run for Senate.
It’s not an unreasonable request for candidates who want to serve the public.
The 2020 elections will include 34 U.S. Senate seats. 22 of them are currently held by Republicans, and many Republicans are rather unpopular, especially those who have tied their fates to President Donald Trump.
And given that the Senate is currently under the control of Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, many on the left desperately want to grab control of the chamber. McConnell has greatly enabled President Trump, and is packing the federal courts with his extremist nominees, and at a rate not seen in modern history. He’s also said many bills from the Democratically-controlled House will be DOA, bragging he will be the “Grim Reaper.”
