HUD Secretary Mocked for Not Knowing Basic Terms Related to His Job and Confusing Them With Oreos and Amway

Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Ben Carson is getting mocked on social media after he failed to understand several basic terms related to his job that several Democratic Congresswomen were forced to explain to him.

C-SPAN posted the videos of Tuesday’s hearing online. In the first, Secretary Carson is unaware of what REOs are. REO stands for “Real Estate Owned,” as freshman Congresswoman Katie Porter (D-CA) was forced to explain, and not a “Oreo,” as the HUD Secretary thought.

REOs are foreclosed properties that fail to sell at auction and become owned by banks.

In the second video, Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (D-OH) was forced to once again explain to Secretary Carson what OMWI, the Office of Minority and Women Inclusion, is. She reminds Sec. Carson she had to explain it to him in last year’s hearing as well.

In both videos, Carson appears not only uninformed, but uninterested.

As the hearing went on, Republican Congressman Lee Zeldin tried to cover for Carson, by falsely claiming HUD has no Office of Minority and Women Inclusion. It in fact does. Its website is here.

On social media, Carson was roundly mocked.
