Federal Judge Smacks Down Trump’s Attempt to Block Release of His Financial Records – Then Ignores Stay Request

‘The President Is Subject to the Same Legal Standard as Any Other Litigant’

A federal judge Monday evening rejected President Donald Trump’s attempt to block a subpoena ordering the release of his financial records to Congress.

U.S. District Court Judge Amit Mehta ruled he would not block the House Oversight Committee’s subpoena ordering Mazars USA to hand over documents related to President Donald Trump’s finances, as Axios reports.

Judge Mehta also refused Trump’s request to place a stay on his ruling, meaning he would not hold the ruling to give Trump time to appeal.

“The court is well aware that this case involves records concerning the private and business affairs of the President of the United States. But on the question of whether to grant a stay pending appeal, the President is subject to the same legal standard as any other litigant that does not prevail,” Judge Mehta wrote.
