Vice President Mike Pence once again is using the media to fight back against an LGBT person. Last year the Vice President battled Olympic skater Adam Rippon, making thinly-veiled disparaging remarks as only Mike Pence can, and attacking him before he was to perform. And now, Democratic presidential contender Pete Buttigieg is getting the Pence treatment.
“He said some things that are critical of my Christian faith and about me personally,” Pence told CNBC’s Squawk Box in an interview that will air Thursday morning. “And he knows better. He knows me,” Pence said, playing the victim.
Buttigieg in fact did not attack Pence’s Christian faith, nor did he attack personally the Vice President.
“That’s the thing I wish the Mike Pences of the world would understand. That if you got a problem with who I am, your problem is not with me — your quarrel, sir, is with my creator,” Buttigieg said Sunday.
On Tuesday he added this apparent follow up:
During the CNBC interview Pence is asked if he’s “evolved” on same-sex marriage. He declines to answer, then says that he and his family are “informed by our faith, and we stand by that,” meaning they believe marriage is one-man, one-woman only.
“But that doesn’t mean we’re critical of anyone else who has a different point of view,” Pence claimed, despite attacking Buttigieg and Rippon.
And in a stunning move Pence also takes credit for having “fully implemented” the Supreme Court’s same-sex marriage decision in Indiana when he was its governor – as if there were a choice, which there was not.
