‘Lock Him Up!’: Calls Grow for Mnuchin to Be Jailed for Interfering With Law Requiring Release of Trump’s Taxes

The laws are clear, according to legal experts who say the IRS “shall” hand over the tax returns of any person in the U.S. if requested by the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. The law also says any federal employee who does not properly execute tax laws can be jailed.
The Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee gave the IRS a deadline of Wednesday to hand over six years of President Donald Trump’s tax returns. The Secretary of the Treasury, Steve Mnuchin, intervened. His response: We’re talking with the DOJ and we’ll get back to you.
Americans, the vast majority of whom want to see Trump’s tax returns, won’t under this law, but clearly they want the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee to see them.
And they’re tired of this administration’s stonewalling tactics on everything, from releasing Trump’s tax returns to releasing the Mueller report.
Many on Friday took to social media to blast Mnuchin issuing calls for him to be jailed, as the law apparently directs, for interfering with the IRS’s legal requirement to fulfill the Ways and Means Chairman’s request.
Borrowing and tweaking a Trump campaign rally popular call, many are also saying, “lock him up!”
Take a look:
Lock him up. I’m not kidding. It’s not some pointless chant to be mouthed by toothless morons in red hats. It’s the law. Put him in jail until he complies. Put every one of them who breaks the law in jail. https://t.co/GgOystgu9F via @thedailybeast

I’m not sure why it’s taking so long but the laws are there and Dems need to use every thing they have to make sure these laws are followed. Send Mnuchin to jail and set an example of him

damn democrats, stop being so damn passive. Arrest Mnuchin right got damn now. Stop letting #GOP run all over you. Stand up for right which means right now! Lock him up. https://t.co/SEDWABEGNx

It’d be interesting, wouldn’t it, if Mnuchin upon opting to block release to the Committee, Trump’s tax returns, found himself facing “lock him up” signs every day – you know, considering the law provides for exactly that remedy (five years).

Can I start chanting “lock him up” because legally Mnuchin either has to follow the law or go to jail, so this chant actually makes sense, and I really want him to go to jail so “lock him up”

Mnuchin, the smug prick, should be jailed for contempt. His vociferous recalcitrant exchange with House Committee Chair Rep. Maxine Waters was despicable. It’s his job to be accountable as a public servant.
He stepped into Trumps tax returns. Release them or throw him in jail. pic.twitter.com/4svONq1Axf

Is there such a thing as acting in contempt of Congress? If so, what’s the penalty? Could someone go to jail for obstructing congress the way Mnuchin is doing. Or do we just gotta sit down and take this sh*t?

Would a judge throw Mnuchin in jail, held in Contempt, until the taxes are produced?
