INDICTED: Trump-Loving Former GOP Congressman, Now Chairman of Republican Party in NC, in Federal Corruption Probe

Anti-LGBT Hard Core Conservative Indicted by Federal Grand Jury

The current chairman of the Republican Party in North Carolina, former U.S. Congressman Robin Hayes, has been indicted in a federal corruption probe. At issue appear to be donations made to the North Carolina GOP, WBTV reports.

Chairman Hayes, a far right wing hard core conservative, surrendered on Monday, the same day it was reported he would be retiring as GOP chair in June.

Hayes had been described in local news as “one of the strongest supporters of Donald Trump.”

Also indicted by the federal grand jury was a wealthy businessman, Greg Lindberg, “who has been under the microscope of federal investigators for white collar crimes related to his business empire and, later, for contributions he made to politicians in North Carolina,” WBTV reports.

The charges are related to wire fraud and attempted bribery, WBTV’s Nick Ochsner reports.

Lindberg is “North Carolina’s largest political donor,” according to WRAL.

The investigation has spanned at least several months.

Last year in October Ochsner reported on Lindberg, stating the “North Carolina Republican Party took nearly $2 million from a political donor who is now under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the United States Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina.”

As a U.S. Congressman, Hayes was virulently anti-LGBT, voting for constitutional amendments to ban same-sex marriage, and to define marriage as one-man, one-woman only.
