President Donald Trump, desperate to change the national conversation, has just thrown his Education Secretary under the bus. Many across the nation were outraged when Secretary DeVos admitted during congressional testimony Tuesday that her budget totally eliminates all federal funding for the Special Olympics.
DeVos was called back for a second day of testimony today, and did not help her cause. In fact, she yelled at a U.S. Senator then refused to talk with a reporter giving her the opportunity to defend her budget.
President Trump from the White House law has just told reporters he is reversing the proposed cuts.
“The Special Olympics will be funded, I just told my people,” Trump just announced, according to NBC’s Hallie Jackson and Monica Alba.
He went on to say that he has just “authorized” funding for the Special Olympics, when he actually does not have that power. Congress has the power. Trump and DeVos eliminated Special Olympics funding from their budget, but Congress has the final say on what actually gets funded.
