Trump Finally Allows FAA to Ground Boeing 737 Max Planes After Two Major Deadly Crashes – US Last Holdout

President Donald Trump has finally allowed the FAA to ground Boeing’s 737 Max 8 and Max 9 planes after two major crashes, including one several days ago that resulted in 157 deaths.

Some had noted that Boeing had donated $1 million to Trump’s inaugural committee, and Boeing’s CEO had called Trump the morning after the latest crash.

As The New York Times notes, after Canada grounded the Boeing Max 8 and 9, the U.S. was “basically alone in allowing the jetliners to keep flying.”

President Trump repeatedly praised Boeing in several talks with reporters.

He said “we didn’t want to have to make this decision today,” and said he might not have grounded the jets at all.
