In what may be one of the most bipartisan votes in years, the U.S House of Representatives late Thursday morning voted 420-0 to demand the Dept. of Justice publicly release the Mueller report.
No one voted “no.” Eight did not vote. Only four Congressmen, all Republicans, voted “present”: Reps. Justin Amash (R-MI), Matt Gaetz (R-FL) Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Paul Gosar (R-AZ).
“This report must see the light of day, must be available to the American public for a catharsis that will allow us to start with the facts, understand what happened and begin to rebuild the faith of the American people,” Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT) said, as The New York Times reports.
The resolution is not binding but it is a way to make clear to Attorney General William Barr that there are strong expectations of him. It makes clear classified or other information not appropriate for public release would not be expected to be published.
The Senate is not obligated to vote on this or any similar resolution, and under Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, is all but certain to not.
