Senate Spectacularly Rebukes Trump’s ‘National Emergency’ as Republicans Join Democrats to Block Wall Funds

At Least 12 GOP Senators Break With President

President Donald Trump has just suffered is second rebuke in as many days. The U.S. Senate voted to pass a resolution sent by the House of Representative, that blocks his call for a “national emergency” declaration. The “national emergency” is widely seen as a desperate attempt to re-allocate U.S. taxpayer dollars to build the wall he promised Mexico would pay for.

At least 12 Republican Senators voted for the Democratic-majority House resolution, delivering defeat to President Trump. The White House repeatedly claimed just a “handful” of Republicans would stand against him.

The final vote was 59-41.

Trump will now be forced to veto the resolution, weakening him in the process.
