‘I Just Won One of the Greatest Elections of All Time in the History of the Country’ Trump Falsely Claims
An even more agitated than usual President Donald Trump attacked Special Counsel Robert Mueller as he spoke with reporters on the White House lawn minutes ago.
The President spoke rapidly, offering new talking points in his anti-Mueller meltdown.
“It’s sort of interesting that a man just writes a report,” Trump said of the Special Counsel, who has been hard at work for 22 months and three days investigating Russia’s attack on the U.S. electoral system. He is not “just” writing a report.
“Never got a vote,” is also how he described Mueller, who was appointed by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who Trump himself appointed.
“A deputy, because of the fact that the Attorney General didn’t have the courage to do it himself, a deputy, that’s appointed, appoints another man to write a report,” is how Trump described the Mueller investigation.
“Day before he got appointed I told him he would not be working at the FBI,” Trump said of Mueller. That’s not accurate, although Mueller reportedly did interview for the job of FBI Director.
“I just won one of the greatest elections of all time in the history of the country,” Trump added, which is false. “We have the greatest economy we’ve ever had,” which is also false.
“I’ve done a great job all over the country,” Trump continued, echoing remarks he’s made earlier that you can’t impeach a president if they’ve done a good job, which is also false.
“And now I’ve got somebody writing a report that never got a vote?” Trump asked. “It’s called the Mueller report. So, explain that, because my voters don’t get it. And I don’t get it.”
Trump described Mueller as “conflicted,” and claims he is “best friends with [Jim] Comey.”
Mueller, Trump charges, “put 13 angry Democrats in” his investigative team, also false.
“You know better than anybody there was no collusion,” Trump said to one reporter.
