Fake ‘Melania Trump’ Returns to Colbert to Destroy Myth of a Body Double Melania

Published

on

Making a return to Stephen Colbert’s “The Late Show,” the fake Melania Trump (played by Laura Benanti) appeared to destroy rumors that the real Melania Trump uses a body double.

Responding to a joke on Twitter that turned into a conspiracy theory that even President Donald Trump felt the need to address, Colbert’s Melania shot it down.

“It makes no sense. How can there be two Melania Trumps? Think about it. Doesn’t it seem crazy that there is even one?” she insisted.

She went on to add that, if there was a need for a body double, it would only be “when a Donald knocks on my bedroom door.”

“When he knocks on my door and he asks for a presidential briefing, it’s over in two minutes and he spends the whole time confused,” she quipped.

The segment also featured another fake Melania played by a high profile actress who eventually admitted: ” I can’t do this.”

Julián Castro Blasts Twitter CEO for Not ‘Working to Remove White Supremacists’ After Steve King’s Bizarro Rant

Published

on

Democratic presidential candidate Julián Castro blasted Twitter for allowing white supremacists on its platform, and went after Republican Rep. Steve King, after the Iowa Congressman posted a bizarro rant directed at the Texas Democrat.

“Hey @JulianCastro,” Rep. King tweeted late Thursday night. “You think it’s NOT embarrassing when you declare that men can get pregnant and then you promote federal funding to abort men’s babies? Genius! A Democrat proposal that will have a CBO score of ZERO! And a bizarre score of 100!!”

Castro on Wednesday had scorched King after the nine-term Republican lawmaker drew scorn and outrage for saying humankind might not exist without rape and incest.

In response to King’s transphobic and bizarre attack, which seemed to come out of nowhere, Castro pivoted, apparently trying to get Twitter’s CEO, billionaire Jack Dorsey, to ban King from Twitter. Twitter has been under fire for what many feel is its slow response in removing white supremacists and neo-Nazis from its platform.

Congressman King has a long and growing history of racist, white supremacist, white nationalist, homophobic, transphobic, and anti-immigrant remarks and policies.

Warren Opens Double-Digit Lead Over Biden in Key State of Iowa

Published

on

U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren has opened a double-digit lead over the current 2020 Democratic frontrunner, former Vice President Joe Biden, in a just-released poll for Iowa.

An Iowa Starting Line-Change Research poll shows Warren at 28%, followed by Biden and Senator Bernie Sanders both at 17%, giving Warren an eleven-point lead over both.

Mayor Pete Buttigieg comes in with 13%. Senator Kamala Harris has 8%. Senator Cory Booker and former Rep. Beto O’Rourke both have 3%.

Warren has gained 16 points in Iowa since May, with all the above candidates dropping over the same time period.

Sen. Warren “spent a considerable amount of time on Iowa trips during the winter and spring, locking in activists and volunteers early on. Warren was also the quickest in the field to build up a strong ground game here, stocked with veteran Iowa Caucus staffers.”

Iowa is a critical state. It’s believed an October, 2007 speech then-Senator Barack Obama gave helped him win the Iowa Caucuses, a turning point that helped him unseat Senator Hillary Clinton as the frontrunner in the 2008 Democratic presidential primary campaign.

Equinox Says It Will Donate $1 Million After Being Burned by Boycott Over Multi-Million Dollar Trump Fundraiser

Published

on

Equinox says it will donate one million dollars to several charities in the wake of a star-studded boycott ignited when the majority owner, founder, and chairman of the fitness club’s parent company, Stephen Ross, held a high-value donor fundraiser for President Donald Trump. The RNC bragged that the two Hamptons fundraisers Trump attended last Friday, one hosted by Ross, netted $12 million – two million more than projected.

Stephen Ross also owns the Miami Dolphins in addition to The Related Companies, a multi-billion dollar real estate development firm he started in 1972. Ross reportedly is worth $7.7 billion. The Related Companies purchased Equinox in 2005, but TIME notes “Equinox is a privately held company, making it difficult to fully assess its financial relationship with Ross.”

Newsweek on Thursday reported the charities that will benefit from the donation:

Cycle for Survival, which funds research into rare cancers, The Heroes Project, which benefits injured veterans, Move for Minds, an Alzheimer’s research organization, the Felix Organization, a charity focused on enriching children in foster care, and House Lives Matter, which supports the LGBT House Ballroom community.

In an email to members Equinox executive chairman Harvey Spevak last week said Ross “is one of the investors, including myself. He does not run the company. I do. I am the executive chairman of Equinox and have led the vision and strategic direction of the company since I joined in 1999. Our focus has always been about building a community centered on our values, not politics.”

Equinox has insisted Ross is merely a “passive investor” in the luxury fitness brand. Ross says he has “always have been an active participant in the democratic process.”

And while some news reports show Ross’ allies defending him – Trump last week called him a “great friend” who is “probably more inclined to be a liberal” – several reports reveal Ross is a more active participant, at least financially, in the Republican political process.

“In the current election cycle, Ross has given just under $50,000 [to] the Republican National Committee (RNC) and $33,600 to [the] National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC). He gave $10,000 to the Democratic Party of Virginia,” according to a deep dive by GayCityNews,

That is just the tip of the conservative money iceberg.

GCN details donations to Republicans and conservative PACS in 2017-2018 totaling just under $400,000.

Between 2015 and 2016 Ross donated over $550,000 to Republicans or conservative PACs.

And while Ross has donated to Democrats, the vast majority of his contributions in recent years appears to be to Republicans and conservative PACs.

Ross has called himself “an outspoken champion of racial equality, inclusion, diversity, public education and environmental sustainability.”
