During his explosive overnight 12-hour diatribe attacking everything from the Mueller investigation to the “treasonous” FBI to the Jussie Smollett case to former President Bill Clinton, President Trump early Thursday morning unleashed his venom on the Central American countries to our nation’s south.
“Mexico is doing NOTHING to help stop the flow of illegal immigrants to our Country. They are all talk and no action,” Trump tweeted at 6:24 AM.
“Likewise, Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador have taken our money for years, and do Nothing. The Dems don’t care, such BAD laws. May close the Southern Border!” he threatened, once again, out of the blue.

So it’s certainly surprising to see Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen just six hours and eight minutes later also take to Twitter to send the exact opposite message.
“I would like to extend my profound gratitude to our Central American allies Honduras, Guatemala & El Salvador—as well as [US Embassy Honduras] and [the US Ambassador to Honduras] —for their commitment to our common cause of secure borders & more orderly migration flows,” Nielsen tweeted.

Secretary Nielsen’s tweet was part of a long thread, started Wednesday, explaining she is currently in Honduras “to meet with security leaders.”
She blamed illegal immigration into the U.S. not on Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador – as Trump just did – but on “outdated laws, misguided court decisions & congressional inaction.”
On Wednesday she posted this tweet announcing what she calls “a HISTORIC agreement to confront the root causes of the crisis on our border.”
“Working with Central American govts to increase security & prosperity in the region has been one of my greatest priorities,” Nielsen claimed:
I’m pleased to announce the U.S. & our Northern Triangle allies have reached a HISTORIC agreement to confront the root causes of the crisis on our border. Nielsen even changed her language, one hour ago referring not to “illegal immigration,” but “irregular migration,” snd earlier referring (above) to “orderly migration flows.”
Through expanded intelligence sharing & strengthened border security, we are working more closely with Central American leaders to address irregular migration. Together we will combat human trafficking, child smuggling & the criminals & drug cartels poisoning our communities. pic.twitter.com/0jR1GKxCIq

It remains unclear if President Trump is aware of the Secretary’s actions.

The Ouster of Kirstjen Nielsen Is Part of Stephen Miller’s Overhaul for More Extreme Officials: CBS
Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen was reportedly shown the door Sunday, during a meeting with President Donald Trump. It’s part of a larger overhaul of the entire department at the hands of top aide Stephen Miller, CBS News reported.
“Nielsen’s expected departure is a part of a massive DHS overhaul engineered and directed by top Trump adviser Stephen Miller, according to a senior U.S. official,” the report said. “It’s unclear whether Nielsen is deciding to resign voluntarily, or whether she has been pressured to resign. Nielsen has served as DHS secretary since December 2017, and questions about how much longer she might last have swirled for months, as the president continues to articulate his frustrations about illegal immigration.”
This week, it was revealed Miller convinced Trump to drop his appointee for ICE after Senate Leader Mitch McConnell changed the rules to push the president’s appointees through faster and without public debate.
Trump reportedly dismissed current ICE acting director Ronald Vitiello from consideration for the permanent position because Miller wanted someone “tougher.”
“This is part of an increasingly desperate effort by Stephen to throw people under the bus when the policies he has advocated are not effective,” a senior White House official said. “Once it becomes clear that Stephen’s policies aren’t working, he tells the president ‘they’re not the right people.’”
The Wall Street Journal has already issued a rebuke of Miller and his brand of politics. The editorial board claimed that there could have been a deal on immigration reform, but it was Miller that stopped the White House from supporting the bill. McConnell previously said that he would never pass a bill that Trump wouldn’t sign.
“As it happens, Mr. Trump’s history is also blinkered,” the Journal‘s editors wrote. “In February 2018 he was offered a deal that included money for the wall in exchange for legalizing the Dreamers, who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children. But the President walked away because White House aide Stephen Miller and GOP restrictionists told him he’d be better off making immigration an election issue.”
Miller has a tendency to pass “alternative facts” off as actual facts, as Fox News host Chris Wallace noted in an interview last weekend.
Watch: Shep Smith in Utter Disbelief as Trump Tweets Bizarre 2005 ‘Hee Haw’ Video Amid Swirling Crisis
Fox News host Shep Smith could not hide his shock at Donald Trump incredulously tweeting a strange Farm Bill-themed post — right in the middle of his threat to shut down the government.
“A funny thing happened,” Smith said, noting that the network cut to commercial when they thought Trump was going to speak after his scheduled 3:00 PM appearance.
In that time, however, the president posted a tweet — of himself and Will and Grace actress Megan Mullally at the 2005 Emmy’s performing a song while he wore overalls and acted like a farmer in an attempt to hype his signing of the new Farm Bill.

The tweet showed “a clip of [Trump] at the Emmy’s as a farmer because, you know, I would only guess, as you know this was a Farm Bill signing,” the host said, pausing between words.
Trump, Smith added, was dressed “in the ‘Hee Haw’ regalia” to promote the bill’s signage.
After footage cut to people lined up to meet with Trump at the Farm Bill signing, the host asked if his producers could put the tweet back up.
“Today the president is dealing rebellion from his generals for pulling the troops out of Syria and in addition facing a government showdown and shutdown,” Smith said. “And here’s the presidential tweet.”
