Northam: I Never Saw That Racist Photo, I Am Not the Person in It, I Will Not Resign
Virginia Democratic Governor Ralph Northam says he had never seen the offensive and racist photo that appears on his medical school yearbook page.
Northam in a Saturday afternoon press conference admitted to “actions and behaviors” in his past that he now regrets, including, he said, appearing in blackface in a Michael Jackson costume years ago.
Northam said he did not purchase a yearbook and was unaware the photo existed. The yearbook photo shows an image of two men, one in blackface and one wearing KKK robes and hood. The Virginan-Pilot reported the news Friday afternoon, and published the photo.
The Virginia governor refused to resign, saying it would be the easy way out.
“That is not my picture,” Northam said.
