Late Monday Democrats and Republicans reached a deal to avert what is about to become the fifth shutdown of the federal government under President Donald Trump. Barely more than 12 hours later, President Trump is finally reacting to the terms, and he’s not happy.
“I can’t say I’m happy,” the President told reporters in the White House as he was holding a Cabinet meeting. “I’m not happy about it. It’s not doing the trick,” Trump said.
PBS NewsHour White House correspondent Yamiche Alcindor reports Trump told reporters he is “adding things to it,” which is not something he can do.
And true to form, Trump suggested that if he does sign it, he will blame Democrats for the contents of the bipartisan deal. And if he doesn’t sign it, and forces yet another government shutdown, he will blame the Democrats for that too.
“I don’t think you’re going to see a shutdown. If you did have it it’s the Democrats fault,” Trump said, Alcindor notes. “I would hope that there won’t be a shutdown…I am extremely unhappy with what the Democrats have given us.”
Trump also once again lied, saying “we’re building a lot of wall. Right now we’re building a lot of wall.”
