House, Including More Than a Dozen Republicans, Votes to Block Trump Overreach of Border Wall National Emergency

The U.S. House of Representatives has just passed a resolution that would block President Donald Trump’s declaration of a national emergency in order to bypass Congress and build a wall on the Southern border.

More than a dozen Republicans crossed the aisle to vote with Democrats for the resolution. The current vote count, subject to change, is 245-182.

The Senate will have 18 days in which it must take up and vote on the resolution. It is believed there may be enough Republicans to support the resolution, forcing President Trump into his first veto.

Trump has said he will veto the resolution, but it will weaken him politically.
