Conway Sidesteps and Pivots but Repeatedly Refuses to Say if Trump Will Apologize for His Cyberbullying at SOTU

“Are you denying that he uses the internet to bully people?”

Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway on Tuesday repeatedly refused to say if President Trump will apologize for his cyberbullying during Tuesday night’s State of the Union address.

First Lady Melania Trump, as part of her “Be Best” and anti-bullying efforts, and President Donald Trump invited 11-year-old Joshua Trump as their guest to sit in the First Lady’s box Tuesday night. Joshua, who is in the sixth grade, has been bullied at school because he shares the last name of the President.

“Is the president going to mention Joshua in his address, and in doing so will he apologize for his own role in cyberbullying people with whom he disagrees?” NPR’s Rachel Martin asked Conway.

Conway pivoted, sidestepped, and danced around the question, mentioning that she too has school-age children.

Martin was not letting up.

“Will the president apologize for how he has used the internet to bully people?”

“The president uses his considerable media platforms to cut through the middlemen who don’t always tell the truth about his record,” Conway offered.

“Are you denying that he uses the internet to bully people?” Martin continued.

“The president is also a counter-puncher if you’re talking abut calling out a Senator from Connecticut who lied about being in Vietnam but never was,” Conway accused. (Conway’s statement is inaccurate at best.)

“If you’re talking about the people who like to criticize him, or the racist, abortionist governor of Virginia who’s a Democrat,” Conway charged.

Martin was prepared and did not hold back.

“He’s also called out his intelligence chiefs, calling them ‘naive,’ saying they ‘should go back to school,’ calling Maxine Waters ‘low-IQ,’ – there is some hypocrisy as people have pointed out, inviting a young man who’s been bullied, not to dismiss his claims but to ignore the president’s own role,” Martin said.

Conway again refused to answer any of Martin’s questions, them attacked House Financial Services Chair Maxine Waters again.
