President Donald Trump is going through the motions to lay the groundwork to declare a national emergency at the southern border, so he can keep his campaign promise to “build the wall.”
The President this week admitted that he he did not even think his first-ever primetime Oval Office address, and his trip Thursday to the border, were necessary, but he was following the advice of his aides.
Friday morning, one day after spending just a few hours in Texas, Trump again declared there is a “Humanitarian crisis” at the border, which, he said, was an “invasion.”
It’s unclear how he thinks that makes sense. The real humanitarian crisis is the conditions asylum seekers and those detained for crossing the border illegally are being subjected to.
Meanwhile, border apprehensions are at their lowest levels since the 1970’s, negating the President’s claims of an “invasion.”
