Admits Shutdown Was ‘Badly Hurting’ Millions

President Donald Trump, who has yet to sign the bills passed at least an hour ago by the Senate and the House, took to Twitter after getting pummeled by conservatives who are angry he “caved” to Speaker Pelosi.

Trump is expected to end the longest shutdown of the federal government in U.S. history Friday night, which he started, by signing legislation that does not include any funds for his wall. Trump shut the government down for 35 days, taking 800,000 federal workers’ paychecks hostage, and depriving about one million contract workers and small businesses of income they will never recoup.

On Twitter, Trump insisted re-opening the government “was in no way a concession.”

“It was taking care of millions of people who were getting badly hurt by the Shutdown with the understanding that in 21 days, if no deal is done, it’s off to the races!”

Trump announced Friday afternoon he would allow the government to be funded for three weeks but by February 15 Congress had to fund his a wall or he would, he claimed, shut the government down again, or resort to other measures to fund building his wall. Many believe that means an executive order, which would immediately trigger lawsuits.
