Just two days after the end of the longest government shutdown in United States history, White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney made it clear that the president would be willing to do it all over again.
Face The Nation host Margaret Brennan asked Mulvaney if the president was “really prepared” to shut down the government again in three weeks.
“Yeah I think he actually is,” said Mulvaney. “Keep in mind he’s willing to do whatever it takes to secure the border. He does take this very seriously. This is a serious humanitarian and security crisis. And as President of the United States he takes the security of the nation as his highest priority.”
After a disastrous government shutdown precipitated by the President’s refusal to compromise on his demands for billions of dollars for a southern border wall, the government managed to pass a bill funding and reopening the government for three weeks. During that time, the president apparently expects to get the money for his wall.
“He doesn’t want to shut the government down,” added Mulvaney. “Let’s make that very clear. He doesn’t want to declare a national emergency. What he wants to do is fix this the way that things are supposed to get fixed with our government which is through legislation.”
Mulvaney then pushed the blame on Democrats.
“One of the reasons he agreed to open the government this week was to essentially take the Democrats at their word while their leadership have been telling us they were not interested in negotiating and they were sort of taking this do nothing and hope the president gives up approach,” said Mulvaney. “There were many many Democrats, both rank and file and some lower levels of leadership, would come to us and say look we happen to agree with you on border security, some of them were even very public about it.”

Trump Blasted as News Spreads He Wants to Visit Putin and Attend the Kremlin’s May Military Parade in Moscow
“This is a celebration of Russian military power, which Putin is using to undermine US national security interests across the globe.”
President Donald Trump has been avoiding the press this week but Friday morning he spent about 25 minutes talking to reporters on the South Lawn of the White House. Trump’s remarks covered a lot of ground, among them were his eyebrow-raising remarks that President Vladimir Putin has invited him to attend Russia’s May Military Victory parade at the Kremlin, and he wants to go.
“President Putin invited me,” Trump told reporters. “It’s a very big deal.”
Pres. Trump says he would consider attending Russia’s May Day parade, but adds “it’s right in the middle of campaign season.”

Russia is not an ally of the U.S. and in fact has been described as America’s top enemy.
The parade “is a celebration of Russian military power, which Putin is using to undermine US national security interests across the globe,” says CNN’s Jim Sciutto.
Trump says he’s thinking of attending Russia’s May Day parade. This is a celebration of Russian military power, which Putin is using to undermine US national security interests across the globe. Why attend? What benefit does Trump perceive to the US? To himself?
— Jim Sciutto (@jimsciutto) November 8, 2019
Trump’s clear devotion to Putin has been a disturbing hallmark of his presidency. Putin is one of the few leaders President Trump has never criticized, many say, and Trump’s actions have been to Putin’s advantage time and time again. Trump’s pullout of U.S. Forces from Syria and his abandonment of the Kurds is the latest in a long line of pro-Putin actions. His refusal to accept that Russia attacked the U.S. 2016 election that put him in the Oval Office is another that has left America open to even greater foreign influence.
Here’s how people are reacting on social media to Trump’s desire to attend the Kremlin’s military parade with Putin.
POTUS just said he wants to go to the Kremlin’s military parade in May — and hoo-boy, I guess he’s all done pretending that this wasn’t all about debasing himself for Russia. The propaganda is now writing itself.

So is Trump thinking this is some kind of victory lap for him with Putin? If this doesn’t make us hurry the process of impeaching this guy up, I don’t know what would be https://t.co/nxW6q1De5i

Trump said he would like to go to Russia on Putin’s invitation to attend the May Day celebration.
That’s the celebration for world communism.
Perhaps they’ll have a big military parade, which the president really likes.

Trump Promotes Far Right Student Organization Accused of Racial Bias and Supporting Extremism
As he inches closer and closer to being impeached President Donald Trump is working hard to secure his base. One of the most powerful organizations at the president’s disposal is Turning Point USA, which is closely tied to the Trump campaign through Trump family members. TPUSA has been described as a “far-right group” which was originally funded by billionaire donor to Republican and Evangelical Christian causes, Foster Friess.
(Friess may be best-known to most Americans as the man who suggested the best birth control for women is “Bayer aspirin between their knees.”)
TPUSA was founded and is headed by Charlie Kirk, who a USA Today opinion writer says “seems to have a fraught relationship with facts when they get in the way of his worshipful approach to President Donald Trump.” The group claims to have “a presence on over 1,500 campuses,” and calls itself “the largest and fastest-growing youth organization in America.”
That’s Kirk in the photo above, interviewing President Trump.
Its website currently lists its “advisory council” as “coming soon,” but archived versions show far right wing extremists like former Tea Party Republican Congresswoman Michele Bachmann and powerful lobbyist and Tea Party activist Ginni Thomas (spouse of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas) have served the organization.
Kirk calls Donald Trump, Jr. “a personal friend,” and the president’s eldest son has often toured with Kirk, speaking at TPUSA rallies. Lara Trump, who is married to the president’s other adult son Eric, is also tied to the group, according to New York Magazine’s Jane Mayer. In December of 2017 Mayer wrote an exposé titled, “A Conservative Nonprofit That Seeks to Transform College Campuses Faces Allegations of Racial Bias and Illegal Campaign Activity.”
Of course, TPUSA may forever be known best for its disastrous attempt to launch into the UK. During a seminar aimed at recruiting new members in London, its then-communications director Candace Owens launched a disturbing attempt to promote the failed concept of nationalism. She was subsequently accused of defending Hitler, after delivering these revolting comments:
“Whenever we say nationalism, the first thing people think about, at least in America, is Hitler,” Owens said, as Buzzfeed reported. “But if Hitler just wanted to make Germany great and have things run well, OK, fine. The problem is that he wanted, he had dreams outside of Germany. He wanted to globalise. He wanted everybody to be German, everybody to be speaking German. Everybody to look a different way. To me, that’s not nationalism.”
In a profile of TPUSA the ADL writes: “TPUSA’s leadership and activists have made multiple racist or bigoted comments and have been linked to a variety of extremists.”
There’s more, of course (see links at the end of the article.)
Despite all this, or perhaps because of it, President Trump Wednesday AM offered up these tweets promoting Turning Point USA and its founder, Charlie Kirk:
Young campus Conservatives are flocking to Turning Point USA & other Conservative speaker events all over the Country, AND IN RECORD NUMBERS. Thousands of students are turning out. “I just want to compliment the President of the United States for signing that historic Executive..

….feel EMPOWERED. There’s a movement happening on these campuses like I’ve never seen before. When you have 3000 students wanting to get into an event that couldn’t get in, that’s pretty remarkable!” @charliekirk11 Turning Point USA KEEP AMERICA GREAT!

Trump Faces Furious State Dept. Revolt for Trashing Career Diplomats on Ukraine: ‘People Are Fed Up’
According to a report from Politico, Donald Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo are facing a massive revolt by longtime staffers at the State Department for continuing to trash U.S. diplomats and members in the foreign service community who refuse to protect the president over his Ukraine misdeeds.
Politico notes, “They’ve been derided as a ‘Deep State,’ slurred as ‘Obama holdovers,’ threatened with draconian budget cuts and told that President Donald Trump doesn’t even need them. Now, America’s diplomats are taking their revenge.”
Describing diplomats and State Department officials who have already spoken with House investigators, Politico reveals that resentment toward the president runs deeper than just anger over his Ukraine troubles.
“Overall, the diplomats’ testimony has bolstered allegations that Trump tried to improperly pressure Ukraine to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden, a political rival,” the report states. “But some also used the platform to air long-held grievances over Trump and his aides’ treatment of the State Department’s career staffers, several of whom were demoted or sidelined following attacks by the conservative media.”
According to Laura Kennedy, a former U.S. ambassador who still keeps in touch with former associates at State, “People are fed up, there’s a deep well of resentment that’s just bubbled toward the top.”
According to another source, some lower-level employees are worried their reputations may be sullied by the turmoil going on in Pompeo’s department.
In fact, Pompeo has infuriated the career diplomats with how he is running the department as well as his criticism of well-respected employees.
“State Department employees say they’re furious that he hasn’t publicly supported [former Ukraine Ambassador Marie] Yovanovitch, who testified that the deputy secretary of state, John Sullivan, admitted to her that she’d ‘done nothing wrong’ but was being recalled anyway,” Politico reports. “Pompeo took over the department in April 2018, after morale had sunk unusually low under Trump’s first secretary of state, Rex Tillerson. Tillerson had largely sidelined career diplomats and seemed willing to go along with steep budget cuts Trump proposed for the State Department – cuts Congress has repeatedly blocked.”
According to a U.S. diplomat stationed overseas, “People are generally disappointed that Pompeo seems to have abdicated principled leadership in favor of political games.”
“But for now, as the impeachment inquiry leads their colleagues to Capitol Hill, State Department staffers feel like they matter, too. ‘They are sad, tired and scared,’ one former State Department official said, ‘though glad to see colleagues stand up and fulfill their oaths.’” Politico summed up.
