‘You Picked Him’: Trump Mocked After Calling His Former Secretary of State ‘Dumb as a Rock’ and ‘Lazy as Hell’
President Trump wasted little time Friday responding to news his former Secretary of State had said in a public appearance in Houston on Thursday that he had to force Trump to not break the law, that Trump is “undisciplined,” and that Trump doesn’t like to read. It was Rex Tillerson’s first public appearance in the nine months since he left office.
“Mike Pompeo is doing a great job, I am very proud of him,” Trump just tweeted about his current Secretary of State. “His predecessor, Rex Tillerson, didn’t have the mental capacity needed,” Trump added.
“He was dumb as a rock and I couldn’t get rid of him fast enough. He was lazy as hell. Now it is a whole new ballgame, great spirit at State!”
Not surprisingly, many were only too happy to go after Trump. Take a look:

These two tweets by Trump, about Tillerson, then and now, are a perfect summary of why you cannot take seriously anything, anything!, Trump says about anyone. Journalists are fools if they do. pic.twitter.com/hoKVe8wMBl

Everyone who went down the whole “Gee, Trump is so presidential this week” path, please report to the principal’s office. https://t.co/iOxMqoM7lA

Rex Tillerson, a mediocre Secretary of State at best but one of the most successful businesspeople of his generation, loses more IQ points each time he sneezes than Trump has ever had in his life.

Trump never got over Tillerson calling him a moron. https://t.co/JKMkc9bsA8

Calling the man you chose as Secretary of State “dumb as a rock” is just an incredible self-own https://t.co/YcIE7gnoUD

At one point before inauguration Trump declared that his Cabinet had the highest IQ in history, which is remarkable given that Tillerson was, per Trump, so dumb. Even with that drag on the average!

If Rex Tillerson is “dumb as a rock,” what does that make the guy who hired him to run the State Department? https://t.co/0LjWWvQ5MK

I’m old enough to remember when Trump said he would only hire the best people. No administration in history has had this much turnover. The fish rots from the orange head. https://t.co/74cStfEV8t
