Trump Wants to ‘Shift the Goals of the West Wing Away From Legislation and Toward Politics’: Report

President Donald Trump wants to turn the White House into a totally partisan, political operation focused on defending him and wholly disengaged from doing the work of serving the American people.

So says a CNN report detailing the president’s goals for whoever becomes his latest chief of staff.

“Trump has privately told confidants he wants his new chief of staff to shift the goals of the West Wing away from legislation and toward politics, sources said,” CNN’s Kaitlan Collins reports Monday afternoon.

As part of his interview process of Vice President Mike Pence’s Chief of Staff, Nick Ayers, who turned down the job on Sunday, Trump gave the 36-year old “politically savvy young aide” an assignment.

“He wanted him to conduct a thorough review of how the West Wing operates, including evaluating staffing, in order to make it more politically focused over the next two years,” CNN’s Collins reports.

On Twitter Collins adds that Trump “wants his next chief of staff to be all about politics, politics, politics. He has remarked on several occasions that the West Wing needs more aides who are political killers.”
