Piers Morgan, a British right-wing columnist and a former “Celebrity Apprentice” contestant, drew mockery across the internet on Tuesday when he openly lobbied President Donald Trump to make him his next chief of staff.
In a column for the Daily Mail tabloid, Morgan implored the president to hire him because of their experience together on a reality TV show.
“When you made me your first Celebrity Apprentice a decade ago, you told me in the live NBC finale: ‘Piers, you’re a vicious guy,’” Morgan writes. “Let’s be honest, what more could you possibly want from your Chief of Staff? You could have been talking about yourself!”
Morgan then went on to say that while he would let Trump be himself as chief of staff, he would also not be afraid to “look you in the eye and tell you when you’re being an idiot.”
Morgan also said that he would surround the president with loyalists instead of “ghastly, untrustworthy reptiles like Omarosa Manigault Newman who you invited into your home with the same kind of inexplicable, self-destructive recklessness a mother hen displays when she invites a fox into the coop to babysit the chicks.”
