Trump Actually Tried to Order the Prosecution of Clinton and Comey

President Donald Trump tried to order the Department of Justice to prosecute his political opponents, Hillary Clinton and James Comey earlier this year. The New York Times broke the news late Tuesday afternoon in a bombshell report.

While it is theoretically possible for a president to ask the Dept. of Justice to open an investigation, it is illegal for the president to order the prosecution of any American.

White House Counsel Don McGahn, who has since resigned, rebuffed the president, “saying that he had no authority to order a prosecution.”

On CNN, New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman says Trump wanted to prosecute Clinton for the far right wing’s fake “Uranium One” story, and Comey for “leaking.”
