‘This Is a Scandal at 15 on a 1-10’: Noted Progressive Leader on News Trump Tried to Order Clinton Prosecution

“The president essentially wanted to break the law.”

The bombshell news that President Donald Trump attempted to order the illegal prosecution of two of his political opponents, Hillary Clinton and James Comey has the left on fire.

“This is a scandal at 15 on a 1-10” scale, said Neera Tanden Tuesday evening, “and I think the idea that the president is naïve, or he is inexperienced, is ridiculous.”

“He was essentially trying to use the apparatus of the State to punish his political enemies, Hillary Clinton, and James Comey,” Tanden told Ari Melber on MSNBC’s “The Beat.”

“If this happened in another country we’d have the State Department saying it was no longer a democracy.”

“Just because he was stopped,” by White House Counsel Don McGahn, Tanden continued, “informing him it was an impeachable offense does not take away from the fact that the president essentially wanted to break the law.”

Tanden is a noted progressive leader, President of the Center for American Progress, and served as policy director to the Clinton 2008 presidential campaign, and later served as policy director to President Barack Obama.
