Audience Feared Shooting as Man Yelled ‘Heil Hitler, Heil Trump’ at ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ Performance

A Trump supporter stood up during intermission of a performance of “Fiddler on the Roof,” gave a Nazi salute, and shouted, “Heil Hitler, Heil Trump,” causing audience panic and fears of a mass shooting Wednesday night.

“People started running,” Rich Scherr told The Baltimore Sun. “I’ll be honest, I was waiting to hear a gunshot. I thought, ‘Here we go.’ ”

The Trump-supporting agitator was escorted out before the play resumed, but the damage was done.

“My heart was just racing. I didn’t even really pay attention to the second act,” Scherr, who took the video below, says.

“Fiddler on the Roof” is a famous musical that has appeared on Broadway at least six times. It tells the story of a poor Jewish family at the turn of the 20th century, when Jews were an oppressed religious minority subject to the whims of the czar and local authorities.

Scherr, who was attending the performance, is also a Baltimore Sun sportswriter, posted this video:

Just weeks ago a madman shot 11 people dead at a Jewish synagogue in Pittsburgh. The gunman shouted, “All Jews must die.”

Anti-Semitic hate crimes have skyrocketed under President Trump.
