A Fox News Business guest Monday afternoon falsely claimed that migrants from Honduras are carrying leprosy and smallpox and will infect Americans once they cross the U.S. border. Smallpox was eradicated worldwide in 1980. Leprosy is curable with antibiotics.
“We have these individuals coming from all over the world,” a man identified as a former ICE agent, David Ward, told Fox News Business host Charles Payne. “And they’re coming in with diseases such as smallpox and leprosy and [Tuberculosis] that are gonna infect our people in the United States.”
Ward, implying terrorists and people accused of “attempted homicide” are already a part of the caravan, also insisted that people from “Africa and the Middle East” would be crossing the border too.
