MSNBC Invited a Right Wing Extremist to Discuss America’s ‘Toxic Political Environment’ – It Didn’t Go Well

Erick Erickson is among the most divisive pundits in America. Over the past few years he has compared gay people and liberals to ISIS and called gay people terrorists. He has said “comparing gay rights activists to the Nazis is fitting.” He has called former Supreme Court Justice David Souter a “goat fucking child molester.” Then-First Lady Michelle Obama he called a “marxist harpy wife.” And perhaps most importantly for today’s purposes, Erickson once asked, “At what point do the people … march down to their state legislator’s house, pull him outside, and beat him to a bloody pulp?” and said: “‘It is and has always been the left’ that resorts to violence.”

Thursday afternoon, less than 24 hours after the nation was consumed by what has now become a series of ten pipe bombs sent to top Democrats – including two former Presidents, a former Vice President, a former Secretary of State, and two sitting Congresswomen – MSNBC saw fit to invite Erickson on to comment during a segment about America’s “toxic political environment” and political violence.

It didn’t go well.

Not surprisingly, Erickson, an anti-gay, racist, sexist, misogynistic, theocratic fear-monger, tried to take over the segment. Host Katy Tur was forced to tell him, “I’m still going,” that it was her show, and demand he let her finish.

“Have you ever heard a politician,” Tur continued, “other than Donald Trump say, ‘I’m so proud,’ or give a kudos to another politician who bodyslammed a reporter? Have you heard that from anybody else other than Donald Trump?” she asked, after Erickson condescendingly tried to compare comments President Obama had made with President Trump’s rhetoric.

Erickson told Tur her blood pressure is going up because she’s talking about Trump.

Tur responded by saying that Trump advocates and celebrates violence, while Erickson insisted “both sides” do.
