POLITICIZING HOMELAND SECURITY
Homeland Security Chief Blasted for Politicizing Caravan Instead of Catching Pipe Bomb Attacker
Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen is under fire for prioritizing and politicizing the migrant caravan currently 1000 miles away from the U.S. Sourthern border instead of focusing of this week’s terror attacks that have targeted now 12 top Democrats and activists including two former U.S. Presidents.
Nielsen Thursday appeared on Fox News at the U.S. border, promising to defend American citizens from the estimated four to eight thousand migrants marching towards the United States to flee the poverty, drugs, and gang violence they face in Honduras.
.@SecNielsen on if caravan members risk being shot at if they force themselves across U.S. border: “We do not have any intention right now to shoot at people.” #TheStory pic.twitter.com/Mi3ZpdsyPx

But the migrant “caravan,” which President Donald Trump is using as a tool to fear-monger and to literally scare up more votes, is 1000 miles away from the U.S. It will take them weeks if not a month or more to reach the border, if they reach it at all.
Many are asking why the Secretary of Homeland Security needed to travel to the border, and appear on Fox News primetime when their literally is exactly zero threat to American citizens or U.S. sovereignty reeks of politics – something Homeland Security is not supposed to engage in – less than two weeks before a highly contested election.
Nielsen is even advertising her Fox News performance:
This evening, I’ll be joining @marthamaccallum on @TheStoryFNC to discuss the crisis at our southern border and how @DHSgov is working to defend our nation. https://t.co/pHDQyA6HVB

The Washington Post’s Greg Sargent:
Why is the Homeland Security Secretary spending valuable time and resources doing this …
… when the former president and vice president and secretary of state, and a media organization regularly attacked by Trump, have been targeted by bombing attempts? pic.twitter.com/VdgnHW1iwP

Here’s how some others are responding to Secretary Nielsen:
Why is DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen going on TV to discuss the US-Mexico border when someone is sending explosive devices in the post? https://t.co/nz06x8dJ4v

between florida attorney general pam bondi and homeland security secretary kirstjen nielsen, sure is funny how some of the people in charge of catching a serial bomber on the loose would rather spend their time talking about … whatever on fox news pic.twitter.com/Rf9osNgPfN

Trump and his regime are doing anything they can to get this story back in the headlines to distract from his inability to act like a leader fit for office after multiple assassination attempts. https://t.co/UtpVV5K6sf

The “caravan” is several thousand miles away. Yesterday 10 pipe bombs were sent to prominent leaders on the Presidents enemy list. But hey…Nielsen looks cool in her shitty sunglasses at the border. “Homeland Security” is a joke. https://t.co/oRzXCGrYwb

Police have intercepted the 11th and 12th letter bombs in terrorist threat and yet @realDonaldTrump has deployed the Homeland Security Sec. Kirstjen Nielsen to the US southern border to address the Caravan crisis with her Ray-Ban sunglasses. #bombs #HonduranCaravan @CoryBooker pic.twitter.com/HcH0ACmbqh

Weren’t there like, bomb threats a day ago? It’d be cool if we had some kind of department for that.

Asylum seeking is not illegal
Deploying the military against asylum seekers is illegal
BUT WE ASK AMERICA …
Who is going to stop him ??? WHO cares about asylum seekers ???
Who cares about AMERICAN VALUES ? pic.twitter.com/D5335F2W7q— Students for Democracy (@lister_lester) October 25, 2018
Haha. What they can’t let that get in the way of their priority of dehumanizing people of color, and enriching themselves??

Nielsen is at the border today. This is really a remarkable data point on the Department, the Secretary, and priorities. @cnn https://t.co/OunPiuIWJN
