Grassley Asks DOJ to Investigate Avenatti and Swetnick for Possible Criminal Conspiracy in Kavanaugh Claims

Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) is asking the Dept. of Justice and FBI to investigate Michael Avenatti and his client Julie Swetnick for possible “criminal conspiracy” related to their statements during the confirmation hearings for now-Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

In a lengthy, 12-page letter to Attorney General Jeff Sessions and FBI Director Christopher Wray, Senator Grassley claims Avenatti and Swetnick must be investigated for possible “materially false statements they made to the Committee.” He asks they be investigated to determine if they broke federal law.

Grassley also works hard to paint both Avenatti and Swetnick as having “credibility issues,” dredging up their pasts to highlight issues entirely unrelated to Kavanaugh.

Swetnick essentially alleged that Kavanaugh and his friend Mark Judge helped enable the gang rapes of women.

“I witnessed efforts by Mark Judge, Brett Kavanaugh and others to cause girls to become inebriated and disoriented so they could then be ‘gang raped’ in a side room or bedroom by a ‘train’ of numerous boys,” she wrote in a sworn statement, saying this happened at parties she attended.

Grassely appears to have gone to great lengths to attempt to destroy Avenatti and Swetnick’s reputations.

Avenatti took to Twitter to refute Grassley’s charges.
