Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee have just sent a letter to Chairman Chuck Grassley suggesting previous confidential FBI background checks on Brett Kavanaugh revealed the Supreme Court nominee had a problem with alcohol or sexual misconduct – or both.
The letter chastises Judiciary Committee Republicans for two tweets sent Tuesday that claim:
Democrats say there is information in the second tweet “that is not accurate.”
They are demanding the tweets are “promptly corrected.”
The letter cites confidentiality issues for not being more specific. It also criticizes Republicans for spreading false information.
“It is troubling that the Committee Majority has characterized information from Judge Kavanaugh’s confidential background investigation on Twitter, as that information is confidential and not subject to public release,” the letter states. “If the Committee Majority is going to violate that confidentiality and characterize this background investigation publicly, you must at least be honest about it.”
