Contributions Spike and Supporters Crash Heitkamp Website After Red State Dem Announces No on Kavanaugh

Republicans Pull Funding From Her GOP Challenger

Democratic U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp Thursday afternoon announced she will be voting against confirming Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. It was a brave move – the North Dakota Senator represents a red state that voted for Trump over Clinton by 36 points, and the latest poll shows her down by 12 points.

But something amazing happened when Senator Heitkamp made her announcement.

Supporters flocked to her website and crashed it. NCRM tried to access the site around 2:30 PM ET and it was down. It remains down. Attempts to visit Heitkamp’s site are redirected to ActBlue, a fundraising website for Democrats. Supports can contribute to Heitkamp directly on ActBlue.

ActBlue tweeted that contributions to Heitkamp’s account spiked after she made her announcement. based on the graph, they appear to have tripled:

While Senator Heitkamp’s resources are growing, the National Republican Senatorial Committee has canceled nearly $90,000 in advertising for Heitkamp’s Republican challenger, assuming he will beat her.

Six years ago polls had Heitkamp down by 10 points. She won.
